LONDON: Deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif has alleged that justice was being ‘assassinated’ in his case. “My opponents were included in the joint investigation team (JIT) by choice to target me,” he said while talking to media in London. He reiterated his stance that he had been ousted over an Iqama rather than Panama after finding no evidence of corruption against him.
“If I would have been ousted on charges of taking commission or kickbacks, then I would have gone home with shame. But charging me for an iqama is not understandable,” Nawaz said, adding every third Pakistani has the iqama then why only he was targeted. Confirming his return, the former PM said he will go back to Pakistan before 26 of this month. Meanwhile, a special team of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrived in London on Thursday to probe the references filed against the Sharif family.
According to details, the team will visit various private and government departments and meet people to gather evidence against the Sharif family. Before sending the team to London, NAB had written a letter to UK authorities and appealed for cooperation in the investigation.
