A high-level meeting chaired by Additional IG Punjab Highway Patrol Captain (R) Zafar Iqbal Awan (Satara Imtiaz) was convened at the PHP Headquarters, Lahore, on the directive of Inspector General of Police Punjab Shoaib Dastgir to discuss joint arrangements for facilitating passenger on the highways and further reduction of traffic accidents, while SSP Headquarters Shaista Nadeem, DIG Traffic Punjab Riaz Nazir Gara, DIG Motorways Arslan Malik, DSP Motorways Mansoor Javed and DSP PHP Riaz Shahid were present. The detailed issues related to improving the challan system in addition to more effective strategies for preventing traffic accidents on the highways were discussed in the meeting. Additional IGP Captain (R) Zafar Iqbal Awan said that the PHP, National Highways and Motorways police and Traffic Police will continue the measures under the comprehensive strategy for the improvement of Punjab traffic Management System and for the convenience of the people so that Citizens on the highways may not face any theft, robbery or other threats during travel and at the same time traffic accidents can be reduced by educating the drivers to obey traffic rules.
He added that in addition to the effective use of modern technology, the information sharing, effective coordination and awareness campaigns will also be launched which aims to make commuters traveling on the highways feel safer and more secure. He further said that joint measures would be in place to ensure compliance with traffic laws and to eliminate corruption and immediate corrective actions would be taken against the officer violating the SOPs issued by the Head Office.
