ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) amid tight security after his health deteriorated in Adiala jail on Sunday.
Earlier, following PIMS medical team’s recommendation, interim government ordered to shift Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lifetime president to the hospital.
Nawaz was shifted to coronary care unit (CCU) after irregular blood reports and ECG were found during check-ups. It was said that the ex-PM felt pain and discomfort in his arm and chest.
Adiala jail authorities had also requested the interim government to allow them to shift Nawaz to the hospital, while the ex-PM will be shifted as soon as the interim setup issues directives.
Moreover, the security around Adiala was tightened and additional police force was deployed when the former prime minister was being shifted from Adiala jail.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has prayed for the speedy recovery of ailing Nawaz.
In 2013, when the PTI chairman fell from a stage during a public gathering in Lahore, Nawaz had visited him in hospital.
The former prime minister and his daughter Maryam Nawaz were arrested upon their arrival at the Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore following the accountability court’s verdict in the Avenfield property reference that sentenced them into jail for corruption.
